SGDK is an amazing framework for building Sega Genesis games. Among its features is the tool rescomp, which compiles resources like images and audio for use inside your game. The rescomp tool offers a path for extension. I’m currently using a rescomp extension to import my collision map from a csv file in ldtk’s super simple export. This guide should allow you to more easily write extensions for your specialized resources as well.

Edit 2025-06-27: Since I originally wrote this article I’ve gone back and added similar syntax for image links! The article has been updated accordingly. If you would like a copy of the original article find me on Discord and I’ll send you a copy. Since I started using Hugo for this site there’s been one major missing feature for me - wiki style links. In this article I will describe a hack to add the syntax as part of a custom theme.

Web UI libraries should do everything in their power to render something relevant given absolutely any input. This, even if the consumer fails to include the necessary input for the component in question to function correctly.
When graceful degradation is discussed in programming it is generally in regard to what a web app should do when various web features are not supported: if JS is disabled, do X. If the api fails, do Y.

Content Quality Relevance Discoverability For documentation to be good it must meet all three criteria. Failure of any of the three indicates that the documentation is fundamentally flawed. It may be costing you or your organization much more than the time and energy spent producing it.
Content Quality First the document must accurately communicate information. It should be up to date when written and updated regularly when the underlying information changes.

I mentioned back in 2019 that I needed to writeup how I’m using hugo to build this static site on my Android phone. So here it is! Only 3 years later
First I’ve got my complete setup to clone the git repo written here (just updated!). apt install hugo in termux cd to the hugo folder run with drafts locally with hugo server -D --noBuildLock Go to http://localhost:1313 to review kill with ctrl+c when done Do a final build with hugo --noBuildLock Then push with rsync as detailed in another of my old writeups I’ve had to add the –noBuildLock flag to the hugo commands because of an issue with build lock on Android.

I believe there are 3 things you need to know to interact with any system optimally:
How it was intended to work. How people think it works. How it actually works. Knowing how the system was intended to work can help in finding the optimal way to interact with it. If you work with a system with the designer’s intentions in mind, you can take a path that is compatible with their future plans, and even their oversights.

I can now push to my site from my phone via rsync! I added my Termux install’s ssh pub key to my nearlyfreespeech.net account. I wrote a one line script to make the rsync call that Guillermo Garron describes on his blog:
rsync -v -rzz --checksum --chmod=Du=rwx,Dgo=rx,Fu=rw,Fog=r --delete <path-to-site>/ <user>@<server>:/<path> I had to install rsync via the following command:
pkg install rsync The -z compression option Garron recommends doesn’t work in Termux but switching to -zz (as the command’s own warning states) does work.
