Power Fail

I joined many members of my city in losing my power last week. We’re very lucky. We have enough money that the loss of groceries didn’t really affect us. We were able to go elsewhere to eat, and then to the movies to get cool. I know a lot of others are and were not so lucky. I hope that the powers that be can take this failure and work to ensure that it doesn’t happen again. I also hope that efforts to decentralize utilities can be made. Functional offgrid solar should be a possibility if our battery technology can get us there.

Dr Strange and the Multiverse of Madness

My girlfriend and I went to see the new Dr Strange movie during the power outage. It was pretty good! It was cool to see a young America Chavez in the MCU. This is my first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie since I saw the first Dr Strange movie in theaters back in 2016. I’m now considering playing catch up on all the movies I missed.

I have pretty carefully avoided Disney+ since its inception, but was tricked into subscribing earlier this month expecting the new Dr Strange movie to be available. Since then I’ve watched both the Loki and Hawkeye series. I enjoyed both. I especially liked the portrayal of Kate Bishop who is one of my favorite Marvel comic characters. So I guess I’ll be back on the MCU train for a while.

The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash was sadly quite generic. I picked up the manga not knowing that there is light novel version. So I might try that. I’m generally just not impressed with manga adaptations. I do think the story will be good kind of generic filler for me. So I’m not completely abandoning it yet.

I got the first volume of The Two of Them are Pretty Much Like This specifically because I enjoyed Whispered Words. The first volume was really good. It is nice to see another yuri with adult characters get translated. It does hold onto the age-gap trope that yuri typically has. I’m hoping that the series stays strong.

Library Books

I grabbed The Ikigai Journey the sequel to Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life which I read at the same time as Awakening Your Ikigai by Ken Mogi. At the time I vastly preferred Ken Mogi’s book. I mostly picked this up to see if the writers have corrected any of the issues in their take when compared to Mogi’s presentation. I’m not expecting much. I could swear I wrote about this before, but this is the first instance of the word Ikigai on this blog. So who knows what happened.

Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore was on hold for me. I have been planning to read this for a very long time but just haven’t gotten around to it. I was linked to the blog of the writer, Robin Sloan, by another blogger sometime ago. I’m really looking forward to this.

I’m growing to enjoy just hanging out in the self help section of the library. 9/10ths of these books are crap, or, worse, ghost written crap. Still, with optimism, I picked up Creative Quest by Questlove “with Ben Greenman” as the title card says. We’ll see how it goes. I’ve liked Questlove in the interviews I’ve seen. I’m hoping that I find something of value here.

I made a bracket to hang my steering wheel controller and its stand on the wall when I’m not using it. I plastidipped a pair of brackets as part of the project. I’m pretty impressed with how well the plastidip worked! I might use it in more projects moving forward.

My polaroid camera mod is in hibernation. I can’t decide whether I should just move forward with gluing it up or if I should make additional adjustments and reprint.

I also dusted off my goblin army and added basing materials to nearly all of the rest of the minis (one mini needed some green stuff added to the base which needs to cure). Maybe someday I will paint them all and move on to something different!

The Journey Continues

The power outage, however easy I had it, was still very stressful. I’m going to be on the back foot for a while until I recharge*. I’m just trying to take things one step at a time for now. I’m sure things will wait if you need to do the same. As always take care of yourself. Do the thing you actually want to do, not the thing that’s easiest.

Stay chill and enjoy

* Editor’s note. This pun was not on purpose. I only noticed it on my second read through. I am, as usual, very tired lol -_-
