This past weekend we went to Matsuricon. We had an excellent time! We got to see ProZD review Ohio foods in person! The AMV competition entrants were great. The dealers hall had a lot to offer. I’m old now. I’ve felt this for a while. My joints hurt in the morning. I’ve got a handful of mild chronic illnesses to manage. I struggle with staying up late. But my girlfriend and I still had a place at Matsuricon.

So first the power failed, then our government failed, and then my health failed. I haven’t written here in a while. I went from an American existential crisis directly into a pretty hefty covid infection. I made it 2 and a half years without getting sick, but, unfortunately, the streak is broken. I’m not going to write anything more direct about the Supreme Court here. I’m not going to write further about my time with covid either.

We attended the Columbus Arts Festival on Saturday. There were a few artists showing there that I was excited to see, but overall the art itself was less important than the food and the excuse to be out and about. We took the bus to get there, my first bus trip since the pandemic. I absolutely love riding the bus. The routine of walking to the bus stop, waiting, getting on, paying, start stop start stop along the route is very satisfying for me.

The long weekend stretched into a long week. I wrote about half of this a week ago but never finished. Changes to my routine, even good ones like an extra day off, always seem to mess me up. My sleep schedule is no longer a schedule at all. My mom went out of town on vacation this week. So I walked one of her dogs, Lily, for a few days. She’s a bit afraid of everything, and a lot afraid of me, but I managed to get her to walk for me!

A few years ago, my girlfriend asked me to fix her sunglasses. The ear piece had snapped off. At the time I thought that maybe it would be possible to 3D print a replacement, but I couldn’t wrap my head around how to do it. The project was never high priority and so it got buried under other TODOs only to be resurrected this week. While the final product is a little rough, it looks good from a distance and is 100% functional.

A while back my girlfriend’s step-dad leant me 3D Systems’ Sense 2 scanner. I similarly got access to an old MonoPrice MP Select Mini 3D Printer from a friend who had upgraded quite a while ago. So I theoretically have both ends of the 3D replication pipeline now. Unfortunately, just like with the MP Mini, there are some limitations. And, while the MP Mini has (or at least had) a thriving community to support it with guides, tutorials, hacks, and mods, the Sense 2 does not seem to have the same support.
